Problem:
If you're on office365 and just got onboarded on proofpoint essentials, it's quite possible that you are already using an existing 3rd party mail archiving solution and don't currently plan to move to the Proofpoint Essentials archive. It's important to bypass proofpoint for outbound mail traffic specifically for traffic going to your external archiving solution.
Solution:
Create a bypass connector.
Example:
Lets say all your archived Emails go to a mailbox that was generated by your archiving solution provider called "mycompanyarchive@externalarchiver.com" ... and that's what you have configured in your Journaling rules in the classic Exchange interface.
All you need to do in office365 is to create a new outgoing connector:
- From Office365
- To Partner Organisation
- if Domain Matches "externalarchiver.com" (per example)
- use MX resolution (or use whatever smarthost the archiving solution provider provides if that's the case)
- To test the connection, use your archive delivery destination (mycompanyarchive@externalarchiver.com, per example)
